I'm trying to understand how the ongoing battle quote applies to me and I loove the final quote. How the heck do you continually come up with such gems?
Thank you Robert, great start to my day.
Ken, as to how I come up with thses gems, I just peck at a keyboard all day, throw away everything that isn't a complete sentence and post the rest.
Marlene, thanks -- you are a great start to my day, too.

As a mother, I like the second one. I like to think that I have implanted my voice into my children's heads....that when they even THINK about doing something wrong/stupid/careless they will hear my voice and perhaps think again.
My mother has been gone for 30 years but I still hear her voice of warning/reprimand on occasion.
My favorite is #1. It's most gratifying as a parent to see a small child begin to make correct choices. To see them become strong adults with a good sense of values and ethics is even better.
Liz,
You have me right. I did indeed mean to imply that "the memory of a mother's glance" recaptures a voice so assured in its morality and so consistently conveyed in teaching and example that it becomes implanted as a moral reflex. Your writings suggest that you are very much such a voice to your kids.
Randi,
As I've said before, your kids are wonderfully fortunate in their guide. I see so much attention in your posts to the impact our actions have on others, which is what children need to see to understand the moral component of their actions.
smiles both,
