(Note: I have deleted the post "Thoughts From Deep in the Well." This post contains several of the same thoughts.)
I've figured out that my granddad's $6000 salary would be worth about $60,000 in today's money. Makes you wonder what his code of ethics would be worth in today's morals.
At the end of the day, Mother Nature has only one question for us: "What life did you nurture today?"
Despite some famous examples to the contrary, if you can say "new" and you can say "clear", then you can say "new clear."
It is seeing ourselves in others that often prompts the remark, "There's something about that person I don't trust."
After 5000 years of recorded human history, you wonder, "What part of 2,000,000 sunrises doesn't a pessimist understand?"
"It is the abiding faith of mortals that mortality is a temporary condition."

The quote above reminds me of one of my all-time favorite quotes that I believe is attributed to Confucius: "We never think to look behind an open door unless we have hidden there once ourselves."
Randi,
As a younger fellow, I actually knew Confucius. Couldn't tell him a thing.

I like the second one best....as a mother, I spend time each day doing very little of value as far as the world is concerned. But as far as my children/grandchildren are concerned, I hope that time spent tying shoes, wiping noses, helping with schoolwork, and kissing skinned knees is invaluable!!
Oh my goodness, you have hit upon one of my pet peeves: nuke-yu-lur! My other favorites:
joo-lu-ree for jewelry
ree-lu-tee for realty
I actually heard a newscaster after 9-11 call it a "trad-u-gee."
Marlene,
I'm not up on emoticons, but I looked yours up and satisfied myself that it's a smiley face, not a snicker.
Randi,
I've started a few blogs on grammar/pronunciation issues but have always backed off. I've discovered that some folks consider it a basic freedom to mispronounce words. Joo-lu-ree is one of them.
Liz,
I decided to delete to post where I called you Mother Nature's poster mom. We have a lot of poster moms around here. Suppose I just call you Mother Nature.

I decided recently that tolerating bad grammar, especially from non-native speakers of English, is a small price to pay for not having to learn another language myself.
Courtney,
I certainly agree. I have complete tolerance for those who attempt to speak a language not native to their tongue. My remarks are addressed to those who have no respect for their native tongue.

We need more optimists. Actually we need everyone to be an optimist and one person to crack heads if required but he/she can be an optimist too!
Jake,
Welcome -- and stay optimistic. You are blessed with a cool name. Trade?

There's a wonderful lady I met online a year or two ago. Her name is Sarah, a real estate agent from West Virginia. Among many other things, she makes cute little images out of quotes. Check out May 13th (currently about sixth down from the top) at http://cooppics.com. The direct link to yours is http://cooppics.com/2010/05/13/brand-new-day/. Cool, huh?
Terri,
Thanks. I did check it out. Beautiful! There's nothing like being framed against a glorious sunrise to make a thought seem wise. Many of my thoughts have made it from The Quote Garden to such scenes, and I thank you again for the showcase.
