Thoughts Mostly on Family and Light Bulbs

"A family toast is the cheerier the more plastic cups."

"You notice, raising a young family, that every day seems to finish up better than it started."

"In a houseful of toddlers and pets, you can start out having a bad day, but you keep getting detoured."

As Mom used to say, "Never be bothered by something you'd be splitting your sides over if it were happening to Lucille Ball."

There are times when, seeing the whole family gathered together at the dinner table, you think,"My God, if this is the whole family, who's been in charge all this time?"

"As to spats with your in-laws, they'd be easier to make up if it weren't for the kissing."

"What with these energy-efficient light bulbs, it now takes a cartoonist four panels to show someone getting a bright idea."

"Whaddya know, all those years they were calling you a dim bulb, they meant you were efficient."

"Either way, things are a lot better -- either a lot better than they were or a lot better than they're going to be. "

"As a gardener, I'm among those who believe that much of the evidence of God's existence has been planted."

"Even the illustrious are laid to rest in such a way as to make the mowing easier."

"Every twenty-four hours Mother Nature looks around and decides to redew."

Heard from the son of a single mom: "The best friend I ever had wasn't trying to be my friend. She was trying to be my dad."

A final thought on family:
"There are days when the family flies off in all directions in the morning, only to reassemble around the dinner table in the evening. A word of advice -- commit those days to memory."

LOVE your Mom's quote:
As Mom used to say, "Never be bothered by something you'd be splitting your sides over if it were happening to Lucille Ball."
Oh... and I'm working on that assignment for my students... I'll see if I can make a post of it sometime soon...
All the best!

Thank you, I enjoyed them all...Now if I can only remember that it would be funny if it was Lucy.

I also think I have an efficient light bulb these days.

Maria,

Thanks. Checked out your site this morning and found the most wonderful "Skywatch" photographs. You really have the knack of making a sunset say "Cheese."

Marlene,
You get enough of us efficient bulbs together, and we may come up with a bright idea. Actually, I've never seen so many artistic bright ideas as appear regularly on your site. What a delight to the eye!

rb,
I particularly like your 'either way..' quote. Sometimes it's hard to keep things in perspective.

Liz,

Good morning. Please don't make sense of my nonsense. It confuses me.

All,
I just replaced the one about Mr. Obama's healthcare program. While I'm anti-politics, I like to be impartially anti-politics.

LOVE the thought about committing the busy family days to memory. They sure went fast for me - and glad that (at least for now) have a great memory. The thought of my little family around the kitchen table still makes me smile.

Jan,

Once in a while I try to get away with a thought that isn't clever or funny but just true. Thanks for liking.

Hello,

You have the gift of wisdom and words. Very inspiring! Have you heard of five rules for life? I'm curious - what would be yours?

Many many thanks!

You have some absolutely wonderful quotes! Very insightful and so, so true. Hope you don't mind if I quote you again on my daily photo on smugmug? Thanks!

Lynette,
Thanks for the visit. If I were wise enough to compress my thoughts into five rules of life, I wouldn't have written 800 of them since March. (smile) Actually, I believe that once you state the Golden Rule, any other rule you come up with would have to begin, "In other words... ."

Carole,
Great to see you here. I live to be quoted, so feel free.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I love beautiful quotes and yours are so very nice! "Enjoy the little things..." is one of my favorites:) and I like to put it in on my blog where we can see it everyday to remind us of how true that statement is. Hope you have a nice day!

Wow... 100 people over here!
(and we are just the ones you can 'see;' I'm sure there are many, many more who visit!)!

Traci,

Thanks for returning the visit, and thanks again for your use of the quote. Your family is a living example of the "Enjoy the little things..." spirit.

Maria,

Hi. Yes, 100 followers is gratifying, but my niece has 300 and that's just her friends.

Hi Robert
Hi Robert
If you were English, you'd have a telegram from the Queen next week. Congratulations on being 100+. Your replies are every bit as good as what prompted them.

Is it me? I've tried to view your quotes by subject matter but have so far been unsuccessful.

Hi Ken
Hi Ken
Oh, was that a telegram from the Queen? I toss out anything that looks like a telegram, a check, a court summons or a birthday card, because it's always some cleverly concealed advertising.

Far as I know, there's no actual way to select content by subject. You get the whole post that contains the search word.
