Thoughts on Relationships

"You will not find a soulmate in the quiet of your room. You must go to a noisy place and look in the quiet corners."

"It is not only possible to be the person you pretend to be, but there is less effort involved."

"Why try to be someone you're not? Life is hard enough without adding impersonation to the skills required."

"I am told to just be myself, but as much as I have practiced the impression, I am still no good at it."

"To meet someone, someone must meet you, and for that purpose, you must be yourself."

"If God had wanted to be a big secret, He would not have created babbling brooks and whispering pines."

"You wonder if, at the end of life, a dog feels there is nothing left worth sniffing."

"I am a private person, but I will reveal this about myself: if you start massaging my shoulders, don't expect me to tell you to stop."

"Soulmates can meet anywhere. In a noisy singles bar, they will be the two people listening to the band."

Through sources, we have obtained the following alien assessment of the human species: "The male wants to be valued for what he pretends to be. The female wants to be overvalued for what she truly is."

My favorite: "If God had wanted to be a big secret, He would not have created babbling brooks and whispering pines." He does have a voice, for those who truly listen.

I laughed at the massage one! I never pictured you as a hedonist, Robert! (I'm the same way with back scratching.)

The ones on being yourself are so true. Too often, people act so phony and then complain that no one appreciates them for "who they really are."

I love the dog quote Robert...as well as the big secret. Massaging your shoulders? Sounds like you're a big softy of a cat that loves to be stroked as it cuddles in your lapin front of a roaring fire.

Randi,
Thanks. I settled on hedonism after a long search for an activity that didn't require getting up in the morning. As for being yourself, I think I managed to leave open every option possible. Take your pick.

Ken,
Now, c'mon, I didn't say anything about sitting in your lap. Just the shoulders, please.

:) - I love the one about the dog sniffing, I am sure they find joy in sniffing right up to the end. My dog Daisy enjoys nothing more than a new place to explore.

My 85 year old father always says, "Know who you are, when you do, everything & everyone seem to fit just right."

And the dogs have it tonight! My oldest dog, Muffin is blind and almost completely deaf. She will still rise from a deep sleep because she can smell a sandwich in progress!

Enjoy a wonderful week! ~Maria

Marlene,
I think if we could all emulate our pets' interest in their surroundings, life would be a continuing fascination.

Maria,
"Here, here," on your dad's comment. As for Muffin smelling a sandwich, can you imagine the intensity of a dog smelling the aromas of Thanksgiving? It must be a heaven of anticipation and a hell of deprival.

Who spoke of "what oft was thought, but ne'er so well expressed?" That's how I feel about most of your writing. Witty. Perceptive. thought-provoking, etc., etc. I especially enjoyed; "If God had wanted to be a big secret, He would not have created babbling brooks and whispering pines." and would only have added: morning glories, humming birds, baby ducks and quail, and butterflies.

Pffffttt. That's me spilling my drink. I just always love your words, yet I have no other way to describe it and I sound like a broken record?!!

Plus, the massage one was priceless.

The soulmates listening to the band at a noisy singles bar has a huge ring of truth to it. Thanks Robert, and keep it up!

Don,
Me, I'm just trying to say something witty. You, you're looking for God.

Daisy,
Sorry about the drink. Just been over to your wonderful site, and my head is full of thoughts about labeling people. Thank you. Thank you.
