That's All, Folks

(This post was originally titled "That's All, Folks," was briefly changed to "Guess I'll Stick Around," and is now restored to the original.)

"I've been looking over the list of spring chores I made up last fall, and darned if they aren't fall chores, after all."

... which leaves me time to take a long nap, and with that objective, I bid a second farewell and God Bless to you all.

Hi Robert
I'll respect your decision. You obviously have given it deep thought.
I have decided to log all your quotes into subject headings for my own personal quick reference so I hope the blog doesn't disappear altogether.
Thanks for an amazing year.

Ken,
Thanks. I have no plan to delete this blog, at least until renewal in March 2011. I'll be seeing you on your blog. Cheers.

khushi said...

Just when I found you...But I do understand. Thanks for not deleting this blog. I need to save up a lot of it. I'll look for you again in 2011. Hasta Luego. Take Care.

Robert you will be missed, but I do understand. I myself have wondered about the time I spend in blogland, but I am not quite ready to give it up yet. I have truly enjoyed your words during the time I have "known" you and have gained some useful insight into some of the problems of daily life. Thank you.

What?! I'm not happy. (for me, that is.) You will truly be missed -- I have loved your little uplifts every so often and will miss them. But I send good wishes for you to have some wonderful times in your life. Thank you for making me think, making me smile and lifting me up.

Oh, no! I had barely found you and now you are moving on...!

I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed this blog in the short time I've been visiting. And I am truly disappointed at your news.

I do understand, however, that sometimes it's time for new things. And I hope you find great joy and no small amount of creative fulfillment wherever you choose to redirect your energy and considerable talent in the future.

You know this makes me weep and gnash my teeth, right?

You are my favorite quotist/humorist ever. Even more so than Dave Barry. I think the only thing that will assuage my weepiness would be to someday hold in my hands that hardcover volume of The Complete Works of Robert Brault.

I'm a literature teacher. I NEED it on my bookshelf.

I love the last spring chore/fall chore quote.
(It's really not the last one, is it? What are you going to do when that random thought pops into your head?)

i must agree with the other comments, i too will miss you. thanks for sharing your insights and observations.

khushi,
Thank you. It's been a pleasure meeting you and being an appreciative bystander to your multi-continental adventure.

Marlene,
I encourage you to keep up your blog. You offer an array of aesthetic satisfactions, not to mention entertainments and challenges that are fun always.

Jan,
You called forth the better angels of my nature. I always knew that I had said something wholesome and good when you approved.

Sue,
Thank you. It is indeed time for new things. Now that I've written all these sayings, I have to become famous so that people will quote me.

Randi,
You don't know how much your appreciation pleases me. Dave Barry and I started even in 1974, both writng for some of the same publications. I don't know what happened to him, do you?

splendid,
You are most welcome. I thank you for dropping by.

isaiah98,
I detect a fellow stranger. We will doubtless meet in the bye and bye.

Hi Robert,
I will miss your posts...
~ Truly ~

Everyone here has expressed so many of my own sentiments~

I will miss new posts from you, but I am so glad to have your previous posts available. When I have visited them, even ones that I've read before, the words are fresh and new ~ since each day brings a different perspective on life
...and so, I will be back to visit...

How fortunate for your family to know such a wise person.

With much gratitude, always,
~ Maria

ps. I hope you and Joan enjoy a wonderfully sweet springtime ~

I have enjoyed this place very much, Robert...

Well, Bob from Connecticut - I can't say I'm not disappointed. I've enjoyed and looked forward to reading each of your new posts and all of the interesting viewpoints illustrated by your musings. (And in my book you are, in fact, famous enough to quote)
I will take the time to go back over all of your previous posts so I don't miss anything. It's been fun for this short little while - you're one of the most enjoyable friends I've never met. Best wishes,
~ Karen

I don't want you to go! I had just found you, and you have become one of my most favorite new, good habits. I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog, and you have brought a smile to my face when I really needed one! Best wishes and blessings to you!

A Sanskrit proverb says that we are like logs of wood floating on water - we came close & float together, due to some currents underneath & then go in our directions, after some time ! There are lots of "logs" that love to "float" with you Robert - with deep gratitude & warm good wishes

Robert Brault said...

Maria,
Joan and I return your good wishes. Your ingenious use of my quotes in your classroom made the blog worthwhile all by itself. Thanks for all your kind comments.

Karen,
Thanks so much. Thanks, too, for the bright good humor your comments have lent to the blog. You have been a friendly stranger to a rather strange friend.

Teresa,
I welcome you to my archives. There's a year's reading there, if you observe a leisurely pace. Enjoy!

Raj,
Thank you for all your thoughtful contributions. I will continue to enjoy the wisdom you regularly post on your blog.

Robert - as a late-comer to the wonderful world of Robert Brault, this news saddens me - but even as I mourn your choice I can only say "thank you!" Thank you for sharing your insightful words with the world and with me. I wish you much joy - and time to pursue all the things you feel called to do.

After seeing you mentioned very often on Ken's blog I came to say hello - and it seems goodbye. I think it takes a lot of discipline to call a halt to something at which you are obviously very good.

I'm stealing all your quotes ;-)

patriciapaddey,
Thank you for seeing insight in my turns of phrase. I reciprocate your good wishes with whole heart.

French Fancy,
Thank you. If you follow Ken's blog, you have a delightful peek at the life of an engaging person and talented artist. I will look forward to seeing you there.

1500 sounds like a nice even number. Thank you for all, I've linked to one of your thoughts ... the one about a clear path ... it's a favourite of mine, and how I found you ... at my blog on April 7th.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your blog and will miss it lots. I only discovered it about 2 months ago. All the best with your other projects. You will be missed!

Robert Brault said...

Karen,
Ah, yes -- "a clear path to a lesser goal." Doesn't sound all the bad, actually. Will take a peek. Thanks.

gailtiv,
What's nice is that the entire 13-month's worth remains in the archives for anyone interested. Thank for your good wishes.

Robert, I was hoping the Fed would be audited before you quit, so we could celebrate together!

Winston,
Now, don't get me started. Actually, I think the U.S. Govt. should do away with the Fed and borrow directly from Parker Bros.

Drat! Just when I found you! Thank You! For this amazingly beautiful body of work!

Jason,
To call this blog a "body of work" pleases me every bit as much as calling it "amazingly beautiful." Thanks.

Robert Brault said...

Maxie,
I spent some time at your blogs this morning, struck again by your capacity to capture in both word and picture that silent cry of the soul that so many of us find inexpressible. You are quite the undiscovered treasure. Please, anyone reading these words, click on "Maxie" above and permit yourself a rare pleasure.

No! I just discovered you! Well, I will be visiting the archives...I just dropped in today to find new thoughts for the post I will do tomorrow...and, there you go! Thank you for keeping the thoughts available that you have taken the time to share.

Robert Brault said...

vocalise,
Thanks. After a week of nice comments and emails -- and an increase of 13 in my followers list (?????), I'm considering changing my posting plans from "Never again" to "Once in a blue moon." Stay tuned.

Your most recent post has made me very happy. I was sorry to have you pass out of view when I had just spotted you.

Hi Robert,

I hope that if you're calling an end to this blog you will express your gift in some other arena. You have a gift. You need to see yourself as a steward of it.

Keep me posted. Excited to see what's next.

Warm regards,
Gail

Robert Brault said...

Maxie,
The trick is to be the gift that keeps giving.

Sue,
It is a reflex of mine to pass out of view when I think someone has spotted me.

Gail,
You can be sure that any ambitious writing plans will be well-advertised here.

Thanks all,

So glad you decided to stay...i try and start each day with a trip by your blog to see if there are any new thoughts.

I hope - that if you needed convincing - you've been convinced: you are a one-of-a-kind treasure in this vast, cluttered blogosphere. So very glad you're staying around.

I sort of hoped that would happen (your return). That mind of yours is to rich and fertile with full, wholesome stuff to just shut it off. Glad you changed your mind. donkimrey

Anon #1,
As a heads-up, I will tell you that I am trying for some new thoughts every Monday morning. Other postings are likely to be recycled items.

patriciapaddey,
Thank you. The blogosphere is certainly vast, and there isn't anyone posting, I suspect, who doesn't badly need an editor. Certainly I do.

Don/Anon,
Thank you -- although sometimes the richest soil needs to lie fallow for a season.

So, it's not ending? Even though the profile says so? That is very good news! I only just found your site. I was looking for a quote that would express my appreciation for the little things in life. Your quote came up (and now graces my Facebook status). I saw a few of your other quotes, and had to know more about the author. That is when I found your blog here. I am looking forward to reading MORE, so I am GLAD you aren't going anywhere for now. :)

Robert Brault said...

Caroline (Sax Player's Wife)

Well, I guess I'd better change the title back to "That's All, Folks." I'm sorry to disappoint, but after a fourth or fifth reconsideration, I've decided to call it a blog. If you're brand-new here, I invite you (and all newcomers) to start at the beginning and discover it all. Thanks for your appreciation.
