Thoughts on a Sunday Afternoon

"There is a benevolent probability that two people searching for the same thing will find each other."

"You can aspire to House Beautiful, but, me, I like to think that when people come to my house, they feel a whole lot better about their own."

"Eventually in life there is one last game of hide-and-seek, in which you hide and nobody ever finds you."

Hide-and-Seek

A mother always counts to ten
And never, never peeks
But always knows just where you hide
And there she never seeks
Until the very nick of time,
Lest tears run down your cheeks.

"I think if I were choosing a religion, I would choose the one with the least penalty for heresy."

"The trouble with having a body is that people know it's where you hang out, and you don't get any privacy."

"In the last biopic I saw, there was an instant when the screen went dark and the hero, 12 years old, emerged 21. Wouldn't you have loved to play the parents?"

"Speaking of biopics, Hollywood has turned down my life story -- insufficient drug problem."

"The search for happiness is unlike any other search, for we search last in the likeliest places."

"If every time you search for happiness, your mom turns up, it's only because she's afraid you won't find it."

A toast once heard: "To my big sister, who never found her second Easter egg until I'd found my first."

"What do we ask of friendship except to be taken for what we pretend to be -- and without having to pretend."

A Few Thoughts Reprised

"You do not find a soulmate in the quiet of your room. You must go to a noisy place and look in the quiet corners."

"In a soulmate we find not company but a completed solitude."

Sometimes two people need to step apart
and make a space between
that each might see the other anew,
in a glance across a room
or silhouetted against the moon.

As usual they are all very thought provoking. I truly love:
"A toast once heard: "To my big sister, who never found her second Easter egg until I'd found my first."
That's what is so special about having a big sister.

I loved these! (Please help me come up with something different to say, other than "I loved these!" It's beginning to sound....what?...Juvenile? Silly? Gushy? HELP!!)

Your insight into mama-hood is right on -- I think I'm still turning up wherever I think my kids (and now grand kids) need to look to find happiness. And the big sister quote is wonderful. I am the big sister and I hope that's how my sister thinks of me! As always, thank you!

Hi Robert!
We attended a wedding this weekend and I was inspired to post some quotes about marriage... I thought I'd stop by, knowing that you've written some wise words on the topic... and voila!
These quotes on soulmates are perfect!

I smiled at the rest ~ wonderful as always.

Marlene,
Thank you. So glad to see that Daisy is up to trick-or-treating. Your sketch started the gears going on Halloween thoughts -- a favorite subject.

I completely sympathize. What can one really say? I eliminated comments for about a month awhile back, wanting to give everyone a break. But then I found myself checking my email every twenty minutes. "I love these" is just fine!

Jan,
Hard to imagine a more sensitive and thoughtful big sister. I'm the third of four boys, and it was every man for himself when came to finding Easter eggs.

Maria,
Thanks so much for the quote captions on Calm Energy. As always, they make my thoughts come alive.

Blu,
A voice from the past! Great to know you're still looking in. Hope all goes well in the French countryside.

salu,
Thank you. It's a good day when I attain the "interesting" and "magical." I'd actually settle for "mildly diverting."

smiles all,

Hi Robert
Like Becky, I love these...especially all of them.

Still waiting for that book of quotes...although I'd like you to throw in the odd essay, too.

=)

Robert Brault said...

Ken,
I also fancy the one you selected. (smile)

Sue,
Thanks. It turns out that I have very little posterity to write a book for, and as for friends, they (you) can find me here.

Fulfilling & nourishing as always Robert - grateful. It's very likely that "The search for happiness " is what brings many of us to this site!

Robert Brault said...

Raj,
I only wish that happiness were mine to give.

Everyone before me has said what I wanted to say....so I'll just say...
Thank You, Robert.

First I liked this quote, and then I liked this other one. In the end I couldn't pick a favorite. They were all my favorites. You out did yourself this time.

Robert Brault said...

khushi,
As I look out my window, thinking up thoughts, I often feel the same way, "Everyone before me has said what I wanted to say."

karen,
That's how I feel when I sample a box of chocolates.

smiles both,

Robert, you are just too cool for words! That's why we all struggle with the right ones to say in our comments, but please don't do away with them! We still like to try! And we really love hearing back from YOU...a personal message to us!

I think some of your words are worth being written on birthday cakes or cookies or colorful helium inflated balloons let loose and aloft. Others might be printed in beautiful books. Or engraved in granite. Good job, Bob! ~donkimrey

BECKY,
Thank you. You are a person of kindness and good will. I just have to convince myself that posting quips every week and having people tell me how great they are is a life style.

Don/Anon,
Now I'm embarrassed. Birthday cakes and cookies maybe, but helium balloons? Well, maybe helium balloons but beautiful books? Well, maybe beautiful books but engraved in granite? Well, maybe engraved in granite but ...?

Often when I read these, I think, EXACTLY!! Thanks for putting into words what my heart already feels. I am a mother of four kiddos, and I love the one about a parent's love being whole. I've shared that one with my children. Thanks for giving me the tool to share what is in my heart in words that make so much more sense than I usually do! Amy

Anon,
It can be said of all of us that we only occasionally make more sense than we usually do. Thanks for noting an instance when I might have.

I'm beginning to wonder if in your male body you beat a female heart...your "Mom" thoughts are always right on. They often leave me feeling very 'verklempt.'
