Hi Robert, I enjoyed the read this morning. This one:
"An old body is like an old building. Eventually its only reason for being is the employment of the maintenance staff."
really hit home for me as I have been feeling my age lately.
Watching my aging parents (85 and 87 now) really made me take the thought about the old building to heart. That's what's happening. Sad but true.
Thanks for an uplift today -- I always feel good when I read what you have to say.
About faith. Very nice.
"What is certainty but complete faith, and how then can faith not be the path to certainty?"
I've always believed this to be true, and you have stated it perfectly!
And this one is brilliant: "If man can create an intelligence greater than his own, he must accept the likelihood that his creator could also."
=)
Hi Robert!
"For lack of an occasional expression of love, a relationship strong at the seams can wear thin in the middle."
This is a great quote for every couple... to take time for each other ~
It's so important.
One of my blog friends, Ruth, used one of your quotes the other day for a simple post; it made me smile ~
Here's her post:
Perspective
...just had to share it with you.
~Enjoy this beautiful season~
Maria
Faith, maintenance, division of labour, malpractice and sickness are the pick of the bunch for me today Robert. Totally original and perfectly put.
Marlene,
Hmm, feeling your age. There's a lot of that going around. (smile)
Jan,
Looks like you have good genes. Speaking of which, my wife's mom will be due shortly for her 100-year scheduled maintenance.
vocalise,
In the end, it's all about faith, since it's certainly not about certainty.
Sue,
It strikes me, rereadng the last thought, that it can be interpreted in two ways. Always glad to offer two for the price of one.
Maria,
Joan also likes that one for some reason. I'll have to look into it. My appreciation to Ruth.
Ken,
I'm glad you like that division of labour item. It's always been a favorite of mine.
smiles all,
rb
Robert,
I first read your thoughts on another quote page and somehow ended up here. I've been coming back ever since. I just wrote to a friend about you, "It seems that modern day poetry is the quote, and if that is true, he is my favorite poet. I wish I could articulate my thoughts like he does, but then again, I would say that the reason that a person connects with a writer is because that writer can articulate your thoughts for you." Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Kelly
Sometimes I just don't know what to say. I run out of words. Even "Wow!" seems sometimes tired and worn out. Thanks, Friend Robert, for encouraging me to think and showing me how. don
Robert, I love the way you think: This statement: One must generally assume that a person is using no more brains than he or she has.
Real talk
I do love your mind. Naturally related to the building and maintentance crew but loved the one "If it is true that my dog harbors no hope of salvation, then which of us is the nobler friend?" Dogs have us,paws down. Thank you.
Kelly,
Thank you. I must humbly decline the mantle of poet, but it is true that the aim of both poet and aphorist is to articulate what the reader already knows. The goal is not so much to engage cognition as recognition.
Don,
There you go again -- damning with faint praise. (smile)
Karen,
Thanks. You must also assume that I myself am using no more brains than I have.
Arkansas,
And a dog, in the end, can be an important part of the maintenance crew.

lol..Robert your brain must have an extention, mine stop between there and somewhere..But i appreciate you letting me use yours...My favorite i use all the time is Today I bent the truth to be kind....(that is too deep)..Enjoy your weekend..
Robert,
I even love the title of your column!
After taking time to weigh all of the evidence, I have come to the conclusion that your poetry is definitely abstract impressionist!...colorful, textured, about everyday life, everyday people...with a little zinger or two thrown in every now and then!!
Always a pleasure to see the richness of thought, depth of expression and warmth of association. Deeply grateful Robert for the range of topics you gently touch, as also vividly expressed by fellow travellers.
Karen,
Thank you. "Today I bent the truth to be kind..." is surprisingly the most controversial of my sayings, there being a vocal "truth at any price" viewpoint. Each to his own.
Nina,
Poet, abstract impressionist -- you are being kind to a fellow who merely likes to play with words. But thanks.
smiles both,
rb
Raj,
Our paths cross today, you commenting just as I was responding to Karen and Nina. Greetings, and thanks yet again for your kindly-expressed appreciation.
smiles,
