"Family life is a daily struggle to turn love into happiness."
"To accept yourself for who you are is not easy, for it takes nothing less than to adopt someone else's child."
"Ah, the things we would do if we could -- especially in the secure knowledge that we can't."
Most of us die having never made the mistake we spent our life making up for.
"I'm at the age where if you wake up to find your slippers on the bedside table, you know to look under the bed for your glasses."
"I look back on my life trying to figure out where I went wrong, finally acknowledging that that's probably where it happened."
"The ultimate consolation is to realize that things permanent in human experience can be temporary."
"Making a different mistake every day is not only acceptable, it is the definition of progress."
"Right this moment, before you do it, is the time to wonder what you might have done differently."

Robert these all hit home for me. You put into words the way I am feeling these days.
Marlene,
Thanks. I feel a special bond with people who roam my blog at 5:30 in the morning. (smile)

2011 has not been easy here -- and I find some peace and comfort in your words. I really love the first thought -- I do feel that I have earned my rest at bedtime, but to wake up and have the chance to try again is a real gift.
And of course, I love the thoughts about loving children. I think the precious little ones in my life have been what I held onto this past little while. Thanks for always giving me something lovely to think on.
"I'm at the age where if you wake up to find your slippers on the bedside table, you know to look under the bed for your glasses."
Yep, that's me!
;)
I can't seem to choose today, all are so awesome..but the last one is really real.."There is an instinct in a woman to love most her own child -- and an instinct to make any child who needs her love, her own...if i choose them all then you will have to repost..lol Have a great day RB..
There`s always something that rings true to me when you write, always something that touches those dark little corners and light them up. Thank you for inspiring...and for being inspired.
"To accept yourself for who you are is not easy," as "Most of us die having never made the mistake we spent our life making up for" thanks for adding a smile, a tender reflection or just a gentle touch Robert to so many co-travellers. Grateful
Hi Robert. I am just finding your blog and I love it. I absolutely love the way you think and write. Just wanted to tell you.....YOU ROCK! xo
Jan,
Thank you. The days lengthen, and I'm sure that 2011 will become easier for us all.
Sue,
Of course it gets worse than that. I have found my glasses in the refrigerator.
Karen,
I'll accept "awesome" but I'm especially pleased with "really real."
Izabel,
Whenever I'm struggling for a thought, I just think of those "dark little corners."
Raj,
Thank you. Sometimes we forget that the image in our mirror is of somebody else's child.
This Way to Joy,
Thanks so much. Took a quick peek at your site and love it. Your words and photos are quite the antidote to those "dark little corners."

Rb,It is really hilarious when you say it.."really real"..I couldnt find the word I was looking for..so i say what i always say..lol lol I can only be me..You made my day..trust me I am still laughing..
On occasion I've been told that I "have a way with words." I'm not sure of that. But I AM sure that, in your case, I run out of appreciative, admiring adjectives! donkimrey
i must be making a lot of progress...
"I wish to die knowing that I took a fleeting instant of eternity and fashioned from it a lifetime."
I'd like this line engraved on my tombstone.
For some reason,I cried reading this line...it's beautiful, and it's the realization that life really is a small precious bit of time, and we have a tendency to waste more of it,than we live it.
You are my Quote King :)
Karen,
You can only be you, and I can only be me, and everyone who wishes they were us can just eat their hearts out.
Don/Anon
Remind me to give you a thesaurus for Christmas.
nance marie,
Go, girl, go!
Ariana,
Thank you. I might be little recognized elsewhere, but I'm very big on gravestones. (smile)
"Most of us die having never made the mistake we spent our life making up for."-I laughed out loud when I read this, sad a reflection as it is.
And of course this one is poignant and beautiful: "I wish to die knowing I took a fleeting instant of eternity and fashioned from it a lifetime." Kind of the counter-image to this one by Rene Char:
"If we live in a lighting flash, it is the heart of eternity."
nothingprofound,
Thanks -- looking forward to your next set of reflections. As for Rene Char, clever those Frenchmen.

Robert, I have another blog where I post a new aphorism three times a week. Drop by any time.

Just don’t know what to say. Having made me laugh and cry, you have shown me today when I have started to question, am I enough as I am? That I may be on the right path.
I often visit you, and share your wonderful offerings with my mother. I wanted you to know how much I appreciate your words of enlightenment.
You brighten our day,
M.
Oh, lovely. I'm going to try so hard to make different mistakes today. Thank you.
Hi Robert
You are priceless and I am so grateful that I get to appreciate the depth of your talent with words.
nothingprofound,
I checked out mydailyaphorism -- to my delight. Thanks for the heads up.
Anon,
Anyone who's asking questions of themselves is probably on the right path.
M,
Thank you. I do think of your mother any day when "the world sits just right." My best to her and to you.
Tammy,
Sounds like a good idea. I wish we could convince our political leaders to start making different mistakes.
Ken,
Gratitude returned manyfold. Congrats, btw, on the acceptance of your paintings by Trent Galleries.
smiles all,
rb
Made me laugh, made me ponder, made me think. Not bad.
vocalise,
That's me, laughable and ponderous when you think about it. (smile)
