Thoughts To Celebrate My 1500th Follower.

"In a world we will never understand, it is only rational to believe in that which brings solace to our lives."

"So often justice is happenstance.  If you take a stance, it happens."

"Perhaps we are given a mom that we might take into death the memory of a lullaby."

"If there is a mother's song, it is not a hymn sung by a choir but a tune you can't stop humming."

"Each day I go into the world to seek my identity, feeling greatly blessed by the things I don't find it in."

"Sometimes we are steered to God by a random event that could not have been better timed had somebody planned it."

"I've discovered that what you think you know about people is seldom right, and when it is, it's the other way around."

"Born to loving parents and grandparents, we grow up thinking that the world is full of people who will place our happiness above their own. We discover, if we are lucky, that there is exactly one more."

"Life never tires of testing the proposition that life must go on."

"In the fact that the human body is bio-degradable lies all the immortality I seek."

"I have this strange sensation that I'm traveling backwards in time.  Like the other day I passed by a TGI Monday's."

"There are times, as a parent, when you would feel trapped and overwhelmed if it weren't so beside the point."

"My advice is that when you reach the end of your rope, do a little tap dance right out there at the end of your rope, and if you don't know how to tap dance, raise goats."

This actually happened. I was at a graveside ceremony where the officiant said, "Before I begin, please silence your cellphones," and a voice from inside the casket said, "Sorry."

"Some Monday morning don't precisely resume where you left off Friday night."

Hi Robert
The bringing up of a subject during the preparation of a meal is something I THOUGHT I'd learned my lesson with but was reminded again this very day. The same is also true of what I THOUGHT was right of a certain person...I was wrong again!

Please tell me it wasn't really true about the cell phone?

It's nice to hear from you again and it was also good to hear that you may yet publish your quotes in book form.

And the crowd goes wild!!! Thanks for the encore.

Oh Robert....You're such a tease! What are we going to do with you?! Nothing...except keep hoping for more tidbits every now and then!
Hugs to you, sir!

Hi Robert, so glad to have this brief appearance.

From personal experience I can say you are so right about "what you think you know about people is seldom right, and when it is, it's the other way around."....and also about "thinking that the world is full of people who will place our happiness above their own. We discover, if we are lucky, that there is exactly one more."

Are you pulling my (our) leg here with the graveside ceremony story?!!! If you aren't it's scary...

".. where you left off Friday night" or whether one is "travelling backwards in time" - your warmth & friendship adds so much to faith that " that life must go on". Grateful Robert

I love that one for obvious reasons!
{Maybe that's the tune my son whistles ;o)

... always much to smile about here, Robert ~
Thank you*

Thanks all for your kind comments. I've deleted, you might notice, all the posts announcing the end of this blog. But I will be spending very little time in the blogoshpere in the weeks ahead. Trying to pick up a few words of Italian for a first-ever trip to Italy in October. This will probably be the last excursion of this lifetime, and I hope to make the most of it.

"In a world we will never understand, it is only rational to believe in that which brings solace to our lives."

Which is why the solace of faith is irrational to some, because it calls us to understand the world through the eyes of the one who made it.

Robert,
I found your site through qoutegarden.com. I'm looking over the site and not seeing anything about twitter. Are you on Twitter? I would love to follow you.

It would seem that you have figured out the reason for raising goats.

Italy is magical. I love the place. Please tell me you will be taking advantage of the length of the place...from Venice to Rome to Naples (old quarter), Pompei and the Amalfi coast. It is so cheap and quick to catch a train and visit these places once you are there.
Make every second count,Robert as it's a trip of a lifetime.

Chris,
There is a considerable distinction between our two statements -- an essay for another day.

Jason,
Thanks, but I have nothing to Twitter, never saying anything the least bit time-sensitive. A once-a-month peek at this blog is the most anyone needs of me.

Suz,
Was that your reason? If I had known, I would have sprung for tap dance lessons (smile). Seriously, it's no crime to love goats (although legislation is currently pending.)

xoxo to you and the gang.

Ken,
Now I'm excited! Yes, we'll be doing the length, if my energy holds. I'm counting on frequent periods of lying in the grass while Joan sketches (assuming I can do it without spilling too much wine.) Thanks for good wishes.

Just out of habit. . . but also perhaps motivated a bit by hope,. . . I dropped by. Glad you realized that you mean a lot to a lot of very thoughtful people. And I suspect that means a lot to someone so sensitive and talented. Glad you had second thoughts. A lot of times, when I'm thinking or writing on a subject, I wonder: "How would Robert express this idea?" And I find cause to pause and ponder at almost every thought you verbalize...Who spoke of "what was thought, but ne'er so well expressed?"
Whoever was talking about you. don at www.Godscomebackkids.com

Karen, Izabel, vocalise,
I thank you all for your "Welcome backs." Yes, Karen, "He Rise" -- keeping faith with all you members of the Church of the Umpteenth Coming.

Don/Anon,
Yes, I live to post again, failing once more to establish that I do not post to live again.

What a nice "random event" to come upon your recent post. I am glad I will be able to read your wonderful words occasionally. They make me smile. Tell me if you need help in Italy-I've been once and would be willing to help the 2 of you with your bags. Enjoy your trip, the food, the wine, the people, the beautiful architecture, the views and life. Keep up the energy-you are supplying it to me.

nothingprofound,
I will occasionally post, nevertheless, if only to stir the pot once in a while.

salu,
You have been a faithful reinforcer of my sense of worth. Thank you.

Becky,
Thanks. I'm sure that all will survive until I come back again. The proposition I will test from time to time is, Will you survive if I do come back?

Beth H.,
Thanks for the offer. Actually, the only reason Joan is taking me along is to help with the bags.
