"Life is mostly a good reason to go for a walk with your dog."
"I would not wish to live a dog's life, except for the times when you show up to help and are told to go lie down."
"An old dog, even more than an old spouse, always feels like doing what you feel like doing."
"If dogs could talk, the world would lose its best listeners."
Sometimes my dog looks at me as if to say, "Did you know that petting an animal is a wonderful way to relieve stress?"
"Ever wonder where you'd end up if you took your dog for a walk and never once pulled back on the leash?"
I almost can't bear the look in a dog's eyes that says, "I would gladly be your soulmate, if I only had a soul."
If dogs don't talk, how do they say to themselves, "I guess I'll go take a nap."
"After a scolding, a cat goes about its business. A dog slinks off into a corner and pretends to be doing a serious self-reappraisal."
"If you could combine a cat and a dog, you'd have man's best accomplice."
"There is no better actor than a dog pretending to be as sad and lonely as you are."
"My dog and I have enjoyed many a silence together, a conversation always resumed exactly where left off."
"If it is true that my dog has no hope for salvation, then which of us is the nobler friend?"
"If a dog defined intelligence the way man does, then the most intelligent animal would be a dog, followed by the animal most willing to obey the commands of a dog."

It's impossible to choose a favorite, Robert. Because I love dogs, and especially my own, I've experienced so many of these dazzling thoughts and emotions. Thank you, Maestro!
Those were all wonderful, but I think my favorite is the one about the dog after a scolding, going off into a corner and doing a serious self-appraisal!
Becky, Eva,
Thanks. And one more, "There's comes a point in childhood when we realize that not everything is fun forever, which news we then have to break to our dog."

I've never owned a dog, but I love the non-judgmental look in the eyes of dogs I like. They are so friendly and forever loyal. i like the 'If I had a soul', quote best...which made me think and respond as I did.
Anyway, who says dogs don't have a soul?
"Life is mostly a good reason to go for a walk with your dog.. for it always feels like doing what you feel like doing.. to relieve stress ...or ... a serious self-reappraisal". You continue to enrich lives Robert. Grateful

Yes, I've had many a heart to heart with a good old dog friend. They don't mind if you cry a little bit either. I did like the quote about showing up and being told to go lie down as well. I think I could get used to that, so it's just as well I'm not a dog.
Ken,
I have tried many times to describe that look in a dog's eyes. It is not so much a look of hope as a look of hope against hope.
Raj,
Grateful to you, also, for putting it all together so well.
karen,
Yes, when you need a silent friend, a dog can be perfectly eloquent.

When I was a kid, I thought all dogs were boys and all cats were girls. I don't know what that says about me, but as an adult, I've revealed my preference both for cats and for boyfriends, and one of my two cats is a boy...
We have come to the conclusion that since God can do anything He can have our dogs in heaven waiting for us.
The 'serious self-reappraisal' one sounds like something PG Wodehouse would have said.
Kate,
Welcome. Only two cats? Then I guess my cat saying doesn't apply to you, "Psychologists now believe that the need to have ten cats is really a sublimated desire to have twenty cats."
Prude,
Wodehouse was always stealing from me. Couldn't get him to stop.

I love my dog. She doesn't judge, she doesn't tell me to "try harder", she doesn't tell me to give up on those that appear to be to far "gone". She comes up and puts her paw on my leg when I'm crying, she knows I'm hurting....she knows just how to make me feel better. Often I think I love her more than most people I know....but she loves them and reminds me that even they are worthy of love.
She's wise beyond her 7 short years without a PhD...she knows how to make you feel good and sometimes just how to "feel" when you think you have nothing left inside you. She reminds me that even the lost CAN be found and turn their lives around...next to God she's just about perfect.
Thank you..."If dogs could talk, the world would lose its best listeners." So true....

Melana,
Thank you. I won't add to your words. They are close to perfect as they stand.

Well, experience says that if you never pull back on the leash you are likely to get ... back home! However most probably after a looong walk through some unexplored tiny secret places in the park and around unusual street corners... :-)
Hugs,
G.
Georgina,
Ah, you are the keener observer. And it makes a more poignant thought: "Ever wonder where your dog would lead you if you took him for a walk and never once pulled back on the leash? He would lead you home."
