"When we sacrifice truth to some self-serving belief, we tend to believe it tenaciously, for it has come at such great sacrifice."
Every day ask yourself, "What would I do today if I were a better person?"
"You wonder how many times the sun must rise before a pessimist realizes that it's going to keep doing it."
"You never have a friend all figured out. Just when you think you know what makes them tick, they tock."
"I'm not always sure what I saw or heard, but I know what I smelled."
"Few are humble, for it takes a self-esteem few possess."
"Life becomes easier when you learn to accept an apology you never got."
Start to worry when the clips on the evening news that "some may find disturbing" stop disturbing you.
"If there's anything better than a God-given talent, it's a God-given day job."
"An important thing to get to know about a person is the unspoken ways they say they're sorry."
Sign over the gates of hell: "Doesn't mean you're a bad person."

I've just discovered your blog and I'm overwhelmed by emotion and respect. So wonderful, so wise.
I like the words on your sidebar: "Today I bent the truth to be kind, and I have no regret, for I am far surer of what is kind than I am of what is true."
It reminds me of my new year's resolution: Be brave. Be honest. Be kind. I believe those three considerations can help me in any situation and so far they have - sometimes I've been my best when it easier to be my worst.
These are extra special today, Bob.
=)
Vanessa, welcome -- although I doubt that a person of such resolution needs any counsel from me. Thanks so much for stopping by.
Sue, thank you as always, old friend.
smiles both,

Love these! Every one is excellent. The "start worrying one" is expecially true!
"The average voter is deaf and blind to politics, but a witness may be deaf and blind and still testify to the presence of a skunk."
Too right, Robert! But as my master's late father would have added (though not in the original Latin): "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king."
Eva, thanks. I've noticed that when the TV anchor says, "The following may be disturbing to some," my dog leaves the room.
BUDDY, I'm a one-eyed man myself, and I certainly live in a land of the blind. Ah, the weight of the crown.

Oh, snap! I stepped right in that, didn't I? A thousand pardons, Your Majesty.
"Life becomes easier when you learn to accept an apology you never got." ~~ So very true! Thanks for putting into one sentence what I've been trying to find the words to express for years!
I am LOVING the same one Terra loves -- am teaching a church lesson on that very topic soon and will for sure use that quote. *(and your name will be quoted along with it -- thank you!)
And can I say again that I am loving the calendar? I am going to be sad to turn to page to June because May is my favorite.
Terra, Thanks -- although I sometimes wonder about all the things I might say if I knew how to write more than one sentence.
Jan, I think your calendar problem might be solved by the discreet use of a pair of scissors. (smile)
Love 'em all - great variety! Thanks for a smile in the midst of a rather drab day.
Andrew, thanks. I'll save a few drab ones for the next time you have a cheery day. (smile)
Well, thanks to you I am off to pretend I am a better person.
The Prude,
The great thing is -- if you pretend long enough, you forget you're pretending.
"Life becomes easier ...when you learn to accept an apology you never got." .. clips on the evening... stop disturbing you...certainly it
"Doesn't mean you're a bad person." ! How sweetly reassuring Robert.
I was browsing through quotes on the subject of simplicity on www.quotegarden.com and found your amazing blog! What a treat, keep the great wisdom coming! Also, if you have a chance, check out my blog! http://larosenoire1984.blogspot.com
So nice to have found your blog. I have shared many of your quotes in the past...and appreciate your work. Thank you so much for sharing.
Raj, appreciate the knack you have for stringing my lines together so they mean something. (smile)
Lady Jane, welcome. What an engaging blog! A wonderfully insightful post on Memorial Day. Recommend to all.
Linda, Thanks -- and welcome. What a wonderfully nostalgic adventure your blog is. I really enjoyed my trip into the past.
Robert, these are great as always! I've been on a blog break and it's really freed up my time AND my brain to be focused on my memoir. Keep these fabulous quotes coming...and I'll make time to read them! :)

So guess the sign at heaven's gate.

Becky,
About to follow your example and take a long blog break myself. Sounds like fun.
salu,
I'll have to guess, since I doubt I'll ever get there.
