Thoughts for the Graduating Class

"Some times it's worth getting lost to see who will come looking for us."

"What you discover about people you try not to offend is that you can offend them without trying."

"You can live your life so as never to rock the boat, but you could have done that by not being born."

"Never try to be someone else in order to please.  Just be yourself and apologize as necessary."

"Once you find someone to share your ups and downs, downs are as good as ups."

"Always laugh off a slight insult, so that people will understand what it means when you're not laughing."

"As a job seeker, remember this:  You only lack experience if they want it done the same old way."

"Before you do anything, be sure you would do it the same way if you had it to do over again."

"Always invite into your success the people who helped you get there, for they are the ones most likely to wait for an invitation."

"What you must accept as a parent is that you can't always be there for your child without sometimes ruining everything."

A good speech has a beginning, a middle and an end, the best example being, "I love you."

I wish I could memorize better so I could walk around and spout these off at appropriate times. (giving you full credit, of course:)

Some of these should be in new parent cards and some in graduation cards and some should be sky-written.

The Prude,
I so much appreciate this comment. As you might notice, I've retitled the post, "Thoughts for the Graduating Class."

Robert, you are on a roll!(as always!) And I agree with The Prude, but I'll print them and carry them around with me, and maybe paint them on a wall.....well, maybe not THAT!
Thanks for all the thought provoking thoughts! :)
Have a wonderful week!

All good, but these two were my favorites today.

=)

All of these are well worth memorizing, but the one (for me) that I always need to remember (and indeed, ALL parents should remember):

"What you must accept as a parent is that you can't always be there for your child without sometimes ruining everything."

Wise words!

Love, love, love. These are all keepers! My favorites?

Love the makings of a good speech -- perfect! And I really love realizing that when you find the right person, the downs are as good as the ups. After nearly 38 years together, we agree with that one wholeheartedly!

As always, thank you!

Becky, thanks for peeking in from your blog break. Glad to see that the memoirs ("From Pigtails to Chin Hairs")are progressing.

Sue, those happen to be the two most "favorited" on Twitter. Occasionally I hit home.

karen, I debated putting the words "ruining everything" in quotes but decided to leave that up to the reader. (chuckle)

Jan, after 34 years together, Joan and I certainly concur.

smiles all,
rb

Been too busy and ill lately or should I say I've been ill because I've been too busy and, as such, have not had my fix here. So good to see you are as sharp as ever.

Ken, you are kind to stop by. I don't know how you manage to cope with your everyday life, make preparations to relocate to France and still paint each and every day. Wish you a "restful" weekend in Brittany.

Too true - some, like me, have had to learn this the hard way. I guess the best bet is love and compassion at all times, and when that fails, "apologize as necessary." :)

Robert Brault said...

Andrew, welcome. Yes, although it takes a bit of self-esteem to be compassionate and to "apologize as necessary." Self-esteem, of course, is what the person who is easily offended lacks.

Always a delight to stop by and read your latest thoughts and witticisms! I always find one that I was meant to read.

I don't know the protocol/legalities of this, but if I give you credit could I quote any of these on a homemade graduation card?

Robert Brault said...

The Prude,
Sure can -- and I would be greatly pleased if you did.

That is so true! It is good to have a travelling partner with which to share the journey of life.

I'm using this one on my next interview! And of course, I will give you the credit!
